SEA DOGS MAKE IT THREE STRAIGHT, BEAT THE FISHER CATS 5-1! (Portland, ME) - Kris Johnson (3-1) worked five scoreless innings and Zach Daeges had four hits, leading the Sea Dogs to a 5-1 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
SEA DOGS TO HOST BAR HARBOR COMMUNITY DAY ON MAY 10TH
The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have teamed up with the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce to host a Bar Harbor Area Community Day at Hadlock Field on Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 PM as the Sea Dogs take on the Bowie Baysox (Orioles).
Largest 5K in Maine to Benefit Maine Breast Cancer Research
The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Maine Track Club, Paradigm Window Solutions, Sportshoe Center, and Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare will be hosting the eighth annual Mother’s Day road race on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11th at 9:15 AM. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. There will also be a Kid’s Run beginning at 8:30 AM that is free of charge.
The Portland Sea Dogs Mother’s Day 5K is now the largest 5K road race in the State of Maine. From just over 300 runners in 2001 to 1,650 runners last year. A field of 2,000 is expected for the eighth running of the event.
Jersey's to be Auctioned Off, Including One Signed by All the Former Sea Dogs Now Playing for the Boston Red Sox
The Portland Sea Dogs will wear pink uniforms on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11th when the Sea Dogs take on the Bowie Baysox (Orioles) at 1:00 PM at Hadlock Field. The pink jersey’s will be sold or auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Maine Cancer Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
Seven pink jersey’s will go up for auction on EBay at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 12th. The seven jersey’s available include the worn jersey’s of Sea Dogs’ pitchers Justin Masterson, Michael Bowden, and Dustin Richardson. Each jersey will be signed by the player. Slugger’s jersey will also be available. Additionally there will be two jerseys for auction that are signed by the entire team. Highlighting the auction is a pink jersey that has been signed by all the former Sea Dogs currently playing for the Boston Red Sox. This jersey is signed by Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz, Manny Delcarmen, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jon Lester, Jed Lowrie, Brandon Moss, Jonathan Papelbon, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis and former Sea Dogs trainer Masai Takahashi. Each jersey will come with a letter of authenticity. The EBay auction for these jersey’s will last seven days.
Over 200 Photos Tell the Story of the Sea Dogs’ Past & Present
When the Portland Sea Dogs opened the 2008 season, it was the start of the 15th season of Sea Dogs baseball in Portland. Now a new book honors the history of the organization. The Portland Sea Dogs by Wendy Sotos, a former Sea Dogs’ intern, is part of the Images of Baseball Series by Arcadia Publishing. More than 200 photos tell the story of the Sea Dogs’ past and present. The book will be released on Monday, April 28th.

MAINE HISTORICAL SOCIETY LECTURE: PORTLAND SEA DOGS; CELEBRATING 15 YEARS

The Maine Historical Society will host a lecture by Sea Dogs' President & General Manager Charlie Eshbach to celebrate 15 seasons of Sea Dogs' baseball and the release of a new book capturing the history of the Sea Dogs in photos. The event is open to the public and free of charge. the event will be held at the Maine Historical Society at 489 Congress Street in Portland.
The Portland Sea Dogs have a established a new franchise record for attendance in the month of April drawing 65,254 fans in 13 openings in April this season. The mark is more than 11,000 fans more than the previous record. In 2002, 54,201 fans attended Sea Dogs games in 13 April dates.
KRIS JOHNSON NAMED EASTERN LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Sea Dogs’ left-handed pitcher Kris Johnson has been selected the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21st –April 27th. The selection was made by Major League Baseball Advanced Media.
The 23 year-old Johnson notched two wins with a 0.77 ERA in two starts last week. In his first start on April 22nd against New Hampshire, he tossed 5.2 innings allowing two runs, one earned on four hits. He struck out six and walked three as Portland defeated the Fisher Cats 11-2. Johnson was even better in his second start of the week on April 27th against the Binghamton Mets. Johnson scattered five hits over six innings and did not allow a run. Johnson fanned three and did not allow a walk as the Sea Dogs collected a 3-0 victory of the Mets.
Obtained: Drafted by the Red Sox in the 34th round of the June 2004 draft.
Highlights: Led Portland with 14 home runs in 2007 including two home runs in the one game playoff vs. New Hampshire on September 4. Selected to the 2006 Carolina League All-Star Game. Named to the 2005 South Atlantic League All-Star Game and was selected as the third baseman for the End of the Year South Atlantic League All-Star Team.
