MASTERSON SUFFERS THE LOSS IN BOWIE, 'DOGS LOSE 5-3!
Portland finishes April at 17-8!

(Bowie, MD) - Chris Waters (5-0) became the first 5-game winner in the Eastern League, working six strong innings, lifting Bowie to a 5-3 win over the Sea Dogs on Wednesday night at Prince George's Stadium. The loss gives Portland their first series loss on the road this season and they finish April at 17-8.

Justin Masterson (1-1) lasted only three and 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits to take the loss for Portland. Masterson recorded five strikeouts but left the game after Sebastien Boucher's two-run double in the fourth inning - giving Bowie a 4-1 lead.

The Sea Dogs added two runs in the seventh inning off Felix Romero but Julio Manon earned his sixth save (second in the series) of the year with a perfect ninth.

Waters scattered three hits for Bowie but Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out, run-scoring single by Aaron Bates. Bowie tied the game in the third inning when Lou Montanez singled in Boucher on a 0-2 pitch. The Baysox added three runs in the fourth inning and tacked on their final run when Ben Davis hit a solo homer off Daniel Haigwood in the fifth.

The Sea Dogs received RBI singles by Iggy Suarez and Bubba Bell in the seventh inning but that would be the final two runs of the game.

On Thursday morning the two teams will conclude their 3-game series at 11:05 AM. Matt Goodson will make his fourth start of the season for Portland and Brad Bergesen gets the nod for Bowie.

Notes...Aaron Bates extended his hitting streak to 14-games...Hunter Jones worked two scoreless innings in relief...The Sea Dogs set a franchise record for ERA in April at 2.88.
