SEA DOGS BLAST THEIR WAY TO VICTORY, BEAT METS 6-4!
Sandy Madera smacks two homers - Portland ends 2-game losing streak
(Portland, ME) - The Sea Dogs picked a great night to have their best power display, blasting four home runs in a 6-4 victory over the Binghamton Mets in a Fireworks Friday at Hadlock Field. First baseman Sandy Madera led the charge, smacking two solo home runs off Binghamton starter Jose Sanchez. Portland's four long balls provided all six runs in the game two victory over Binghamton. Bubba Bell snapped a 4-4 tie with a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh inning off losing pitcher Eddie Camacho (1-2). Bell's home run came on a 1-2 pitch and landed into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion. Jose Vaquedano (4-0) worked three strong innings in relief of Matt Goodson to pick up the win. Beau Vaughan struck out the side (all looking) in the ninth inning to notch his third save of the year. Vaquedano yielded one unearned run and fanned four (season-high). The righty tied a franchise record for wins in April (4) set by Reid Cornelius in 1997. The four wins by Vaquedano set a new franchise record for wins in any month by a reliever. In the bottom of the first inning, the Sea Dogs scored three times off Sanchez. Jeff Corsaletti hit a two-run homer to right field and Madera followed by clocking a towering homer over the Maine Monster. The back-to-back home runs were the first at Hadlock Field since June 20, 2006 vs. Connecticut (Jeremy West and Chad Spann). Despite the victory, the Sea Dogs made a season-high, five errors, leading to the go-ahead run for Binghamton in the sixth inning. Mike Carp led off the inning with his sixth home run of the season. Saloman Manriquez tripled, knocking Goodson out of the game. Jose Cornado tied the game with a sacrifice fly - Jonathan Malo walked and scored on an error by shortstop Iggy Suarez. The Sea Dogs improved their record to 15-6 and have taken 5 of 6 from the B-Mets this season. The two teams will meet on Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field; game time is 1:05 PM. Righty Michael Bowden (0-2, 4.92) goes opposite Robert Parnell (0-1, 5.89).
