WILD NIGHT FOR THE SEA DOGS, BEAT DEFENDERS IN 11-INNINGS 4-3
John Otness picks up three hits - Vaquedano improves to 3-0!

(Portland, ME) - It wasn't your typical walk-off win but the Sea Dogs beat the Connecticut Defenders, 4-3 in 11-innings on Monday night in front of 3,031 at Hadlock Field. Jay Johnson scored the game-winning run on Justin Hedrick's (0-2) bases loaded wild pitch with two outs.

Portland had one hit in seven innings off Connecticut's bullpen until picking up two in the 11th inning. Hedrick fanned Bates and Natale to begin the frame but Johnson and Otness delivered singles. Ryan Khoury walked and Hedrick's wild toss came on the first pitch to Iggy Suarez.

Jose Vaquedano became the first 3-game winner in the Eastern League by pitching a scoreless 11th.

Otness had three hits for the Sea Dogs, who played their first extra-inning contest at home since September 9, 2006 against the Trenton Thunder in the Northern Division Championship Series. Brandon Moss sent Portland into the E.L. Championship with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th.

Justin Masterson tossed five innings for the 'Dogs, allowing five hits, two runs, three walks and two strikeouts. Portland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Adam Cowart. Bubba Bell and Aaron Bates provided RBI singles.

Connecticut tied the game in the second inning on a run-scoring double by David Maroul and an RBI groundout by Eddy Martinez-Esteve.

Portland knocked Cowart around in the third inning, scoring twice off the righty. Johnson put the Sea Dogs back in the lead with a sacrifice fly and Otness roped an RBI single off the Maine Monster.

The two teams went scoreless until the eighth inning when Connecticut tied the game off Beau Vaughan. The Defenders had two broken bat singles in the inning, including one from Olmo Rosario, which tied the game at four.

Chad Rhoades fanned five over two innings for Portland and Miguel Asencio held Connecticut scoreless during innings nine and 10.

The Sea Dogs have won two straight and host Connecticut on Tuesday night.
