Sea Dogs salvage final game of the series - pick up their first win at Hadlock Field!
(Portland, ME) - In Dustin Richardson's Double-A debut he didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. On Sunday afternoon, Richardson was even better, allowing his first hit with two outs in the sixth inning. The Sea Dogs beat the Rock Cats, 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field in front of 4,139. Richardson (2-0) hurled six innings, allowing one run on Trevor Plouffe's two-out, run-scoring triple in the sixth. He finished with four strikeouts and fanned four. Oswaldo Sosa (0-1) struggled with control, walking six over 3 and 1/3 innings on five hits and five runs (four earned). Daniel Haigwood notched his first career save with three effective innings on one hit and three strikeouts. Ryan Khoury had the big blast, smacking a 3-run homer off the Citgo Sign in the fourth inning. The home run was the first for Khoury at Double-A and gave Portland a 5-0 lead. The Sea Dogs scored a couple early runs with two outs off Sosa. Jay Johnson lined an RBI single in the second and Aaron Bates knocked a run-scoring double off the right-field wall in the third. New Britain's relievers closed out the game with 4 and 2/3 scoreless frames (Sawatski, Ward and Gabino). Portland wins their first home game of the season and improves to 6-3 on the season. The Rock Cats are now 4-4 and travel to New Hampshire on Monday night.
