SEA DOGS "WALKOFF" TO E.L. CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Moss Hits 10th Inning Walkoff Homer in 4-3 Portland Win - Dogs Win Series 3-1!!!
Brandon Moss hit a walkoff home run with one out in the 10th inning as the Portland Sea Dogs topped the Trenton Thunder, 4-3 on Saturday to win the Eastern League Northern Division Championship Series three games to one. Portland now advances to the Eastern League Championship Series for the fourth time in franchise history and will face the Akron Aeros in a rematch of last season's Championship Series. The series will begin Tuesday night at Akron's Canal Park and, after two games in Akron, will shift to Hadlock Field for Game 3 on Friday night. Moss hit the second walkoff homer in franchise post-season history on a 3-0 pitch from Scott Patterson with one out in the 10th inning. Barry Hertzler (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief after Mike Bumatay and Brett Evert combined for two innings of scoreless relief. Moss also preserved a tie game in the ninth inning when he threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate on a two-out single by Randy Ruiz. Portland forced extra frames in the eighth inning when George Kottaras started a rally with a one-out walk. Matt Van Der Bosch pinch-ran and scored with two outs on a double by Luis Jimenez. Trenton took a 3-0 lead in the second inning after the game was delayed by rain for 90 minutes after the first frame. Felix Escalona rapped an RBI sinle, Omir Santos hit an RBI double and JT Stotts drove in a run with a grounder off Frank Brooks. Brooks would throw the first six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. Portland rallied with single runs in the second and fourth innings, courtesy of Brian Myrow. The left-handed slugger homered for the second time in the post-season in the second frame and, after a Chris Durbin triple, rapped an RBI double in the fourth inning. Notes: This is the first time in Sea Dogs history that Portland has won a playoff series in fewer than five games... Portland has now won the last four Divisional Championship Series it has played... Trenton falls to 0-5 in post-season series, including losses to Portland in the Northern Division Championship Series in 2005 and 2006... Brandon Moss became the first player in franchise history with four career post-season home runs... Portland won the opening game at home over Akron last season, beating Jeremy Sowers before losing the final three games of the series -- the Aeros will be searching for their third league title in the last four seasons.
